We have been tracking the MetroFM Music Awards – or #MMA14 for short, as we do with many events of this magnitude from across the world, that are of relevance such as the 2015 Cricket World Cup currently hosted jointly by Australia and New Zealand. The 14th MetroFM Music Awards took place on February the 28th, but the journey to the Awards evening created lots of media hype for the whole month at least, and naturally social media lead engagements in this regard.
One key finding in our analysis of #MMA14’s online mentions was that this premier annual event that takes place in South Africa, was being followed and spoken about in many parts of the world.

MMA has become a key part of both South Africa’s music industry and lifestyle annual calendar. With the country’s music making inroads in Europe (House Music) and the US (Hip Hop), we were not surprised by our finding.
We also published a tweet some hours before the event, publishing top topics from online mentions.

While we asked the question in the tweet in jest, AKA actually won one of the biggest awards of the event – Best Collaboration for his song All Eyes on Me featuring Burna Boy, Da Les & JR.
Most pundits agree that the 14th MetroFM Music Awards were on another level, both from stiff competition to slick production to fashion.
